CHANEL’S FUTURISTIC-INSPIRED SS17 READY TO WEAR COLLECTION
SHOWS KARL LAGERFELD IS STILL THE MASTER
The pony-tailed fashion designer unveiled his vision for the
future of fashion today, and yes, you guessed it, on planet Karl the robots
will be dressed in head-to-toe Chanel...
There are spectacular catwalk shows and then there are
Chanel shows. And thanks to the creative genius that is Karl Lagerfeld , once
again the designer show was the highlight of the Paris Fashion Week schedule.
For his SS17 Chanel ready to wear collection Karl leapt into
the future, transforming the Grand Palais in Paris into a data storage centre
with, giant computer processors forming aisles that served as runways.
With his mind focused firmly on the future, Karl opened the
show with two Chanel-clad robots both dressed in the couture house’s trademark
tweed, proving that in Karl’s vision of the future, even the robots are chic.
Famous faces on the runway included Brit model Edie
Campbell, Soo Joo Park, Catherine McNeil and Arizona Muse.
Arizona wore a short sheer skirt with a boucle jacket and
pearls, all classic Chanel main stays. The only futuristic addition to her look
was a pair of white space age looking ankle boots.
With the sound of Donna Summer’s 'I Feel Love' blasting
around the Grand Palais, famous faces on the FROW included Chanel muse
Lily-Rose Depp, dressed head-to-toe in the label, sitting alongside singer
Usher.
And seated a few seats along, musician Courtney Love watched
with her daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
The rest of the show was highlighted with techno updates
including light-up handbags that flashed with LED lights, spelling out the
brand and a reworked jacket made in plastic and stamped with the Chanel logo.
The traditional Chanel boucle was given a futuristic reboot,
reworked to resemble a cluster of frazzled nerve cables. Elsewhere ,classic
tailoring was reworked with digitally-inspired printed fabrics in new
technically developed fabrics and copper filament was used as beading.
Bringing together the old with the new, models wore side
tilted baseball caps with side ponytails injecting a techie-grunge vibe into
the collection.
Proving once again that he has finger firmly on the pulse
this was Karl’s collection for a new generation of technology obsessed
shoppers.
And thanks to Karl, there's no doubt that when this new wave
of future proofed accessories hit the shop floor, the couture house will be
laughing all the way to the bank.
