Ekpemupolo, popularly known as TompoloAccording to The Punch, Solomon Arase, theInspector-General of Police, had ordered theBayelsa state police command to carry outTompolo’s arrest in compliance with theorder of a Federal High Court, Lagos.Bisi Kolawole, the Public Relations Officer,confirmed that the IG had directed officersto apprehend Tompolo, who has also beendeclared wanted by the Economic andFinancial Crimes Commission (EFCC).Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal HighCourt had ordered the arrest of the formermilitant leader for his failure to appearbefore him to answer 40 counts on analleged N45.9bn fraud.The EFCC had charged Tompolo and aformer Director-General of the NigerianMaritime Administration and Safety Agency,Patrick Akpobolokemi, alongside eight otherswith N45.9bn fraud.The spokesperson of the police stated thatthe force would do everything possible toarrest Tompolo in compliance to the benchwarrant issued by the court.Meanwhile, with four days to the February19 date given by a Federal High Court sittingin Lagos to the nation’s security agencies toproduce the former militant leader, there isno clue as to his whereabouts, Vanguardreports.
His Ijaw relatives also are not ready to giveup the former militant leader, who thepeople of Gbaramatu-Ijaw in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta state,regard in very high esteem.A royal father, who spoke on condition ofanonymity, said: “No Gbaramatu man willreveal the hideout of Tompolo to any securityman even if he knows, unless that persondoes not have a true Ijaw blood flowing inhim.”
