Obafemi Martins proposed move to a
Chinese Super League side has been
stalled, Seattle Sounders general manager
Garth Lagerwey has disclosed.
The BBC reported early Sunday that the deal
to send Martins to SPL club Shanghai
Shenhua had been finalized.
Lagerwey said Martins did not travel with
the team to its current pre-season camp in
Southern California as the striker is set to
resolve his future.
“Oba’s not here with us in this phase ofcamp,” Lagerwey said. “We’ve had anapproach from a Chinese club for his services,and it could take a while to have that resolved.Hopefully we’ll know more by the end of theweek.”Martins, 31, was named the Sounders’ teamMVP each of the past two seasons and wasthe runner-up for the league MVP in 2014.He’s scored 40 goals and added 23 assistssince joining the Sounders from Spanish sideLevante in March 2013.
